Intro to Solids

Well, at our 4 month check-up the doctor gave us the go ahead to try solids. So I introduced rice cereal to Evelyn. Due to her acid reflux, we put rice cereal in her bottle....so she kind of already knows what it tastes like. We tried the rice cereal once every other day. But she spit most of it out and started to stop wanting the bottle and only the cereal. Therefore we have decided to hold off on solids right now.

Our GI specialist told me something very interesting that I thought I should share. He said that solid foods shouldn't be a major source of food for a child under a year. The formula/breast milk should be and that introducing solids to an infant is just so they learn how to use a spoon and eat thicker foods. That way at 1 years old they don't starve because they don't know how to eat. He said not to rush into new foods. To take it slowly and give very little at a time. This way the infant gets what she needs from the milk and just has fun with the spoon.

This has made me feel much better and more relaxed about introducing solids. I think we are going to wait until Evelyn is 6 months before I try the food again. Maybe she will be ready by then.

First Mother's Day

Yesterday I celebrated my first Mother's Day with my wonderful family.

Friday evening Daniel, Evelyn, Rusty and I went to Greensboro to have a wonderful dinner with my parents and grandparents. My parents got to see us feed Evelyn cereal for the first time.

Saturday we all packed in to the Suburban to travel to Raleigh to see my sister graduate. Stacey graduated from the College of Business at NC State University. Evelyn did incredibly well during the 2 1/2 hour graduation (which by the way as only for the College of Business.....way to long, but worth it). After graduation we all went to a late lunch (boy were we starving). That evening we had a party for Stacey at my parents house and we had a ton of people. I'm sure she racked up on gifts.

Sunday was a great day. When we go to visit my parents, we share the room with Evelyn. Since day 2 at home, Evelyn has slept in her crib in her own room. So sharing a room can be a challenge sometimes. Needless to say, I didn't get much sleep Friday night. But Saturday night I got some much needed rest. Sunday was a lazy morning. At about 10:30am we exchanged gifts. Daniel, Evelyn and Rusty gave me a wonderful card and it said that I could buy patio furniture. Yes!!!! I have been wanting patio furniture since we moved in to our townhome (which was December 2005). And to my surprise....my sister also got me a Mother's Day gift. It's a beautiful collage of Evelyn. After exchanging gifts, we met my Uncle Jim, Aunt Susan, Brian, Erin, and other grandparents at Green Valley Grill for a wonderful Mother's Day lunch. But the best part of the day was that Stacey and Daniel held, feed, and played with Evelyn at lunch so I could enjoy my special meal. You guys are great!

As I look back on my first Mother's Day....it couldn't have been better. I'm looking forward to many more. Being a mom can be challenging at times, but I wouldn't change if for anything. I love being a mom and can't wait to see what's instore for our family next.

Evelyn's First Concert

With a husband who is very musical (bass player), music is a very important part of our live. So last night Evelyn went to her first concert. We went to Grace Covenant Church to see some friends of ours...Evoka (http://www.myspace.com/evoka). The music was awesome and Evelyn had a wonderful time.

4 Months

Evelyn was 4 months old on the 28th and yesterday had her 4 month check up. Here are her stats:

Weight: 12 lbs 7.5 ounces

Hight: 23 3/4 inches

• At 4 months, Evelyn is doing some pretty crazy things:

Sleeping though the night most of the time (goes down between 9 and 10 and gets up around 7:30).

Staying awake between naps for much longer.

Talking alot, smiling, laughing.

Rolling from her back to her side.

Becoming a thumb sucker (better than having to give her a pacifier all the time).

Reaching and grabing on to toys.

Loves to stand up with your help (she gets sitting pains :).

Siting up with support.

Enjoys bath time - splashes all around and mom is usually soaked by the end of the bath.

Doing better with acid reflux and beginning to eat more food.

Coming up next - venturing into the wonderful world of solids. We will be beginning with rice cereal. Check back soon to see how that goes.

Baby Dedication

Trip to the Zoo

On Friday, Evelyn had her first trip to the zoo with her parents, grandparents, and aunt Stacey. She has a wonderful time and slept through most of it. Here are some fun pics.
