Today, Daniel left really early to go run sound at our church. Evelyn and I spent the morning naping and getting ready for lunch. Daniel came home at noon and we all went out for Japanese. Evelyn was asleep the entire outing (even while we were in the grocery store with the noisey cart). By the way, Harris Teeter has redesigned their carts and a baby carrier/carseat doesn't fit very well (bad design).
Today was also a new direction/though process in Evelyn's schedule. We are following a book called Baby Wise that helps you get your baby on a schedule and sleeping through the night (sleep is important). About night 3 at home Evelyn was sleeping for 6-7 hours straight at night, but that didn't last long. Now we are getting up 2 or 3 times at night :(. After struggling to keep her wake during feedings and trying to stay on a 3 hour feeding schedule, I called Lori for some support. The main theory of Baby Wise is to Feed your baby as soon as they wake up and then have some awake time....then sleep again. So instead of focusing on the clock, Lori suggested we work on the order (Feed, Wake, Sleep, repeat). So, we will see how this goes. Hopefully she will begin to sleep better at night. In the mean time, I have to learn to be more flexible :).

Steph, you are a very strong woman and a really great mom! You care so much about the wellbeing of your child, I could hear it in your voice when we talked Saturday. See, I told you it would come naturally. Keep it up!! As tough as it is with the lack of sleep, cherish these few weeks. Evelyn will grow so fast. Soon you'll be like me, wondering where the time went! Betsy put it best in one or her posts - here.
Hang in there Steph! After a few weeks, she will settle in and you will only have to get up once. And then, when you get a surprise precious 6 hours of sleep one night, you will feel like you won the lottery. Be flexible with the Baby Wise or it will stress you out. And when she smiles at you for the first time, all of the stress and late nights will be nothing. Can't wait to meet her! Can't believe how tiny she was. She will be my son's birth weight at her 2 month check up!! She is beautiful!
